The latest gallery has been posted to Toronto Illustrators. The theme this fall is “waiting”, and as always the contributions are top-notch. Thank you to everyone who participated and if you’re an illustrator and want to contribute to this gallery, it isn’t too late. Just send me your artwork 400 px wide by any length and a 90×90 pixel icon in 72 dpi jpg format, along with your contact info and I’ll add you to the roster quick as can be!
Check out Rachel Natalie Rawlins printed pieces on display and for sale at Drool at 198 Augusta Avenue in Kensington Market.
Please join Patricia Storms in celebrating the launch of her new picture book, ‘The Pirate and the Penguin’. This time she is author as well as illustrator! The launch takes place on Saturday, September 12th, at the Yorkville Library Branch, 22 Yorkville Ave, Toronto, from 2-5pm. There will be plenty of pirate and penguin fun, as well as munchies, cookies and cake. Patricia will be signing copies of her book, so please note that she will only be accepting cash or cheques for those who would like to purchase a copy of her book.
Patricia will also be performing a skit of ‘The Pirate and the Penguin’ at Toronto’s Word on the Street Sunday September 27th, and she will also be signing books and doing a presentation at McNally Robinson in Don Mills on Sunday October 18th, at 3:00pm

Happy August Everyone! Please welcome our newest members, the prolifically published and fantastic Scot Ritchie, well known for humour and kids illustrations, and award winning Qin Leng whose work is both sweet and innocent while thoughtful and nostaligic.
Inspiration abounds on Toronto Illustrators this summer so be sure to check out our members and their work.
In other site news, we’re putting the call out for submissions to our free online gallery this fall. The theme is "waiting" and we’d love to see what your interpretation would be! If you would like to join us, and we hope you do, please email webmaster@torontoillustrators.com with your maximum 400 px wide (and any lenth) image, and your 90 x 90 px icon for the gallery index page, by August 31st. The gallery will be posted several days later. Be sure to include whatever contact info and description you would like to include.
Is it possible to be wearing something and seem more naked than when fully nude? At the Keyhole Sessions, like Dr. Sketchy’s, the models come accessorized, but here the costumes mostly consist of some rope. Yes, that’s right, we’ve got Rope Bondage Figure Drawing going on in our fair city! The Keyhole Sessions take place every Tuesday, between 8 and 10, at 100 Ossington between Queen and Dundas. Cover is 12 bucks per session, but if you buy 5 sessions in advance you get a discount. For more information, as well as a small gallery to give you an idea of what your in for, check out their website at:
As always, if you’re thinking about going, send me an email at stefanvalent@yahoo.com. As long as I’m not tied up that night I’d be happy to join in!
And if there’s anyone who reads this who can think of a professional application for having rope bondage figure drawing in your portfolio, I need to know.

A big welcome to the wonderful new addition to the Toronto Illustrators family, John Stuart. If you aren’t familiar with John’s work, you really must check it out! Vibrant, clean, and fun, John’s fantastic cartoon illustrations take me right back to my childhood, and who doesn’t want to feel like a kid again?

In other member news, we’ve got a new Spotlight for you… This time, it’s Rachel Natalie Rawlins.
I always learn something new when I read the insights of other artists on their influences, work habits, and thoughts on the industry. It doesn’t hurt when the artist does great work, either!
