My Favorite Figure Drawing, Part 2

August 1st, 2009

Is it possible to be wearing something and seem more naked than when fully nude?  At the Keyhole Sessions, like Dr. Sketchy’s, the models come accessorized, but here the costumes mostly consist of some rope.  Yes, that’s right, we’ve got Rope Bondage Figure Drawing going on in our fair city!  The Keyhole Sessions take place every Tuesday, between 8 and 10, at 100 Ossington between Queen and Dundas.  Cover is 12 bucks per session, but if you buy 5 sessions in advance you get a discount.  For more information, as well as a small gallery to give you an idea of what your in for, check out their website at:

http://thekeyholesessions.com

As always, if you’re thinking about going, send me an email at stefanvalent@yahoo.com.  As long as I’m not tied up that night I’d be happy to join in!

And if there’s anyone who reads this who can think of a professional application for having rope bondage figure drawing in your portfolio, I need to know.

Zorro

A big welcome to the wonderful new addition to the Toronto Illustrators family, John Stuart.  If you aren’t familiar with John’s work, you really must check it out!  Vibrant, clean, and fun, John’s fantastic cartoon illustrations take me right back to my childhood, and who doesn’t want to feel like a kid again?

In other member news, we’ve got a new Spotlight for you… This time, it’s Rachel Natalie Rawlins.

I always learn something new when I read the insights of other artists on their influences, work habits, and thoughts on the industry.  It doesn’t hurt when the artist does great work, either!

My Favorite Figure Drawing, Part 1

June 21st, 2009

Hi there,

I’m a long-time professional creative here in Toronto, and a fairly new member of torontoillustrators.com.  I’m aiming to use my new blog posting powers to keep everyone up to date on events going on around town that might be of interest to you guys.  Starting with:

Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School. This is a semi-bi-weekly figure drawing class that takes place at the Cameron House.  Rather than be fully nude, though, the models will wear elaborate costumes.  To make sure that they have a good supply of said coustumes, they’re usually local burlest dancers, fetish models, and, at least once, a luchedore (luchedora?).  Check out their blog to see what I mean.

They also have nightly contests, where you can win everything from art supples to free drinks.  That’s right: since it takes place in a bar, you can drink and figure draw!

The next one will be taking place June 29th.  Cover is 10 bucks.  Keep an eye on their site and they’ll post who the model is in advance.  You can also check out their Facebook page for more frequent updates.  I’ll be there, anyone else game?

I’ll be posting some drawings from the event afterwards.

In the meantime:  If anyone know of any events around town that might be of interest to the community, shoot me an email at  stefanvalent@yahoo.com.  I’ll be happy to post it here.
